Bail
Bail is a legal concept where a person who has been arrested is released from custody pending trial, often by posting a sum of money or other forms of security as a guarantee that they will appear in court when required. The purpose of bail is to ensure the defendant’s appearance in court and to maintain the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. The amount of bail and the conditions of release are typically set by a judge based on factors such as the severity of the alleged crime, the defendant’s criminal history, and the likelihood of the defendant fleeing before trial. If the defendant fails to appear in court as required, the bail may be forfeited, and a warrant for their arrest may be issued.
